Gambia River agency seeks construction supervision for 128-MW Sambangalou hydro project

The Gambia River development agency invites expressions of interest from consulting engineers to provide construction monitoring and supervision of the 128-MW Sambangalou hydroelectric project and 1,677 kilometers of transmission lines in Africa’s Gambia River Basin. Responses are due August 4.

Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Gambie (OMVG), which includes Guinea, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, and Gambia, also seeks expressions of interest from consultants by August 4 to provide technical assistance for implementation of its hydropower-based energy project. OMVG recruited technical-legal and environmental management consultants last year to advance development of the energy project, which includes Sambangalou on the Gambia River catchment in Senegal, the transmission lines, and the 240-MW Kaleta project in Guinea on the Konkoure River.

OMVG courted private sector partners in 2009 to develop the hydro projects and grid interconnection. The energy project is funded by eight international lending organizations.

OMVG now invites expressions of interest from consulting engineers for control, monitoring and supervision of construction of Sambangalou and the transmission lines to be built under engineering-procurement-construction contracts. Work is to include approval of EPC contractors’ engineering designs; support for coordination of the project including interfaces with the Kaleta project; monitoring of environmental directives; control, monitoring and supervision of construction and installation of equipment; inspection of equipment manufacturing; and oversight of commissioning.

Expressions of interest in French (an original and seven hard copies and seven CD-ROM copies) and an English translation (an original and three hard copies and three CD-ROM copies) are due to the address below by noon August 4, labeled “Manifestation d’Interet pour les Services de Consultants Relatifs a une Mission de Controle, de Supervision et de Surveillance des Travaux de Realisation du Projet Energie de l’OMVG.”
