Generator rehab sought for Sweden’s 9-MW Edsforsen

Hydropower operator Fortum Generation AB invites applications for pre-qualification to supply generator components for refurbishment of the 9-MW Edsforsen hydroelectric project on Sweden’s Klaralven River. Responses are due November 22.

Fortum previously invited applications for pre-qualification by October 23 to supply two new Kaplan turbine runners and to perform related refurbishment work at Edsforsen, which was built in 1949. (HNN 9/28/07)

In the current solicitation, work is to include supply of two new stators. As an option, new stator cores and windings may be offered to be assembled to the existing stator frame. Preliminary main values of the new stators are rated output of 10 megavolt-amperes, rated voltage 7 kilovolts. Disassembly and reassembly are to be performed by Fortum, although installation work is to be given as an option. Work is to begin in 2009.

Applications for pre-qualification in English or Swedish are due November 22. Fortum plans to send invitations to bid November 23 to a short-list of at least two firms. Bids are to be due December 14.
