Ghana river agency awards transmission backbone management

Ghana’s Volta River Authority (VRA) has awarded a contract to Vattenfall Power Consult AB of Sweden to manage work for the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) Coastal Transmission Backbone Project.

The hydropower operator awarded the 39.5 million kronor (US$5.1 million) contract for project management, engineering, and construction supervision consulting services. Vattenfall was chosen from among three bidders.

Scope of work includes overall project management, engineering, procurement/inspection, construction supervision and coordination, quality control, commissioning, and knowledge transfer.

VRA awarded a contract in September to Montreal Montajey y Realizaciones S.A. of Spain for substation and transmission work as part of the WAPP project.
