Ghana river agency awards transmission backbone work

Ghana’s Volta River Authority (VRA) has awarded contracts to a Spanish firm for substation and transmission work for the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) Coastal Transmission Backbone Project.

The hydropower operator awarded both contracts to Montreal Montajey y Realizaciones S.A. of Madrid, which it chose from among six competing bidders. (HNN 10/30/07)

Montreal Montajey received a contract totaling US$8.1 million for Lot 5-4-1, supply and installation of plant and equipment for the Third Bulk Supply Point for Accra/Tema, for substation work.

The contractor also received a contract totaling US$1.8 million for Lot 5-4-2, supply and installation of plant and equipment for the Third Bulk Supply Point for Accra/Tema, for 161-kilovolt transmission line work.

As part of the same tendering, VRA announced contracts in August to Chinese and French firms to refurbish electrical equipment at the 160-MW Kpong and 1,062-MW Akosombo hydroelectric projects on the Volta River. (HNN 8/18/08)
