Guatemala seeks feasibility studies of 200-MW Xalala hydroelectric project

Guatemala utility Instituto Nacional de Electrificacion (INDE) seeks bids to perform feasibility studies of the 200-MW Xalala hydroelectric project on Guatemala’s Chixoy River. Site visits are scheduled January 21-25, with bids due February 13.

INDE took bids in 2008 for studies and development of Xalala on a build-operate-transfer basis. To be built on the border of Quiche and Alta Verapaz departments, Xalala has sometimes been described as totaling 180 MW.

Now, through its Gerencia de Desarrollo de Proyectos, INDE seeks bids to perform geological, geotechnical, seismic, and geophysical feasibility studies for the Xalala dam and reservoir.

Payments for the right of participation are due February 12, while bids are due by 9:30 a.m. February 13. A winning bidder is to be announced by February 27.
