Hydro, dam experts sought for Niger Basin sustainable management

Niger Basin Authority (NBA) invites applications from consultants to serve on a Panel of Experts for Niger River Basin sustainable and joint management. Responses are due April 9.

The World Bank’s International Development Association approved a loan to NBA, the Autorite du Bassin du Niger, which includes Benin, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria, for a program of water resources development and sustainable management of ecosystems in the Niger Basin. (HydroWorld 7/23/09) Among existing hydro projects in the basin are 760-MW Kainji and 540-MW Jebba.

The independent Panel of Experts is to be a consultative structure to NBA. The NBA Executive Secretariat seeks applications from consultants to fill the following positions: environmentalist, sociologist, agronomist, dam specialist, economist, lawyer, hydrologist, hydroelectric specialist, doctor in public health, and a specialist in participative approach and gender.
