Hydro-Quebec CEO named Canadian Energy Person of the Year

The Energy Council of Canada has selected Hydro-Quebec’s Thierry Vandal as its Canadian Energy Person of the Year for 2012.

Vandal, Hydro-Quebec’s President and Chief Executive Officer, was picked in recognition of his “significant impact at both the national and international level with respect to energy,” according to the council.

Vandal joined Hydro-Quebec 15 years ago. Since then, he has helped improve the company’s legacy by developing Hydro-Quebec’s renewable energy assets while ensuring the utility’s rates remain competitive.

“The Canadian Energy Person of the Year Award recognizes Thierry Vandal as an ambassador of Canada’s energy sector, demonstrating a clear vision and commitment to fostering the sustainable use and development of energy for the benefit of all,” says Gerg Schmidt, President of the Energy Council of Canada.

Vandal is the 12th recipient of the honor, which was first awarded in 2001. He will receive the award at a gala dinner in Montreal in October.
