Hydro-Quebec seeks bids to build dam for 395-MW Romaine 3 hydroelectric project

Canadian utility Hydro-Quebec seeks bids to build a dam and other civil works for the 395-MW Romaine 3 hydroelectric project on the Romaine River in Canada’s Quebec Province. A site visit is scheduled Oct. 8 with bids due Oct. 22.

Romaine 3 is part of the 1,550-MW, four-powerhouse Romaine hydroelectric complex, on the North Shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Other projects are 270-MW Romaine 1; 640-MW Romaine 2; and 245-MW Romaine 4. Alstom received a contract in July to supply two 200-MW vertical Francis turbine-generators, butterfly valves, and regulation systems for Romaine 3.

Hydro-Quebec seeks construction of the dam, embankment B3, excavation of the spillway, intake channel and related work for Romaine 3. The work is valued at C$100 million (US$97.2 million).

A solicitation notice may be obtained from Hydro-Quebec’s Internet site under http://www.hydroquebec.com/soumissionnez/data/14411365.htm. Bidders must have their principal place of business in Quebec or in a province or territory covered by an intergovernmental agreement.

A mandatory site visit is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 8. Registration for the visit must be made by 10 a.m. Oct. 4 by e-mail to loranger.francyne@hydro.qc.ca.
