Hydro worker killed as storms hit Ontario

A Westario Power worker has died following an accident in Port Elgin after powerful storms struck southern and central Ontario, news agencies reported.

The man was working on a transformer at a hydro station at Bruce and Catherine streets when he was electrocuted, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Labour. The accident happened late Tuesday, according to reports.

The hydro worker was taken to Southampton Hospital but died as a result of his injuries, police said. The man was 27 years old, authorities reported.

The Ministry of Labour and the coroner’s office are investigating.

According to news agencies, about 45,000 Hydro One customers were without power following the storms.
