India developer extends tendering for 1,000-MW Tehri pumped-storage

Tehri Hydro Development Corp. Ltd. (THDC) has extended tendering for engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) of the 1,000-MW Tehri pumped-storage project on the Bhagirathi River in Uttarakhand State. Applications for pre-qualification now are due by March 4.

THDC a joint venture of the Indian government and Uttarakhand, previously took EPC bids November 30 for Tehri pumped-storage. (HNN 9/3/07) It seeks design, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the project on an EPC basis. Tehri pumped-storage is to have four 250-MW units.

The 14.2 billion rupee (US$349.7 million) Tehri pumped-storage is to be integrated with the 1,000-MW Tehri Dam project, whose fourth and final 250-MW unit was synchronized to the grid in March 2007. (HNN 3/14/07) Tehri Dam and reservoir are to operate as the upper reservoir for the pumped-storage project, while the yet-to-be-built 400-MW Koteshwar project, also being developed by THDC, is to provide the lower reservoir.

Tender documents, No. THDC/RKSH/CD-262, may be obtained from the address below for 400,000 rupees or US$10,000 plus 4 percent value-added tax by demand draft to THDC at Rishikesh or New Delhi. Documents also may be obtained from THDC’s Internet site,, with notification to THDC and submission of the document fee with the bid.

THDC said an opportunity now is given to applicants to submit pre-selection bid documents by 2 p.m. March 4. The date to submit techno-commercial bids will be provided only to pre-qualified bidders.
