India developer seeks carbon credits consultant for seven projects

India hydro developer NHPC Ltd. seeks bids from consultants to assist in carbon credits marketing for seven hydroelectric projects totaling 2,203 MW. Bids are due April 9.

NHPC seeks consultants to assist in registration of hydropower projects for sale of carbon emissions reduction (CER) certificates under the United Nations’ Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) intended to reduce production of greenhouse gases thought to contribute to global warming. The developer seeks consultants having experience of registering at least one hydropower project with the CDM Executive Board.

NHPC has issued similar requests for other projects, most recently for five hydro projects totaling 4,165 MW. (HNN 9/30/08)

Hydro projects now to be registered as CDM projects include: 231-MW Chamera 3 (HNN 7/17/07), 800-MW Parbati 2 (HNN 9/21/07), and 520-MW Parbati 3, (HNN 7/17/07), all in Himachal Pradesh State; 120-MW Sewa 2 in Jammu &Kashmir State (HNN 9/21/07); 132-MW Teesta Low Dam 3 (HNN 9/21/07) and 160-MW Teesta Low Dam 4 (HNN 5/16/07), both in West Bengal State; and 240-MW Uri 2 in Jammu &Kashmir. Services to be provided include CDM application development, validation services, monitoring support, verification, and CER selling support. The agreement is to be for a first crediting period of five years.

Tender documents may be obtained until March 9 from the NHPC Internet site,, with a letter of confirmation and the document fee sent to the address below by March 16. The document fee is 1,000 rupees or US$25 by crossed demand draft to NHPC Ltd. at Faridabad.
