India firm awards equipment contract for 6-MW Kaliganga 2

The hydro development agency of India’s Uttarakhand State has awarded a US$1.8 million contract for supply of electro-mechanical equipment of the 6-MW Kaliganga 2 hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag District.

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (UJVNL) awarded the contract to VA Tech Escher Wyss Flove Ltd. of India for design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment. (HNN 2/8/07)

UJVNL previously awarded a US$4.3 million contract to Srinivasa Constructions Ltd. for design, supply, and installation of complete civil works. (HNN 6/6/08)

Kaliganga 2 was one of four projects tendered by UJVNL under the Uttaranchal Power Sector Investment Project, backed by US$300 million in funding from the Asian Development Bank. The program is to foster clean energy development mainly involving small hydro, plus transmission system expansion and sector capacity building.

Other projects in the original solicitation included 4-MW Kaliganga 1, 10-MW Madhyamaheshwar, and 9-MW Kaldigad, all in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag District.
