India firm extends civil work pre-qualification for 520-MW Teesta 4

FARIDABAD, India 7/3/12 (PennWell) — India’s NHPC Ltd. has extended the pre-qualification deadline for one of two lots of civil works of the 520-MW Teesta Stage 4 hydroelectric project in India’s Sikkim State. Responses to the Lot 1 solicitation now are due July 23.

NHPC previously extended the deadlines for pre-qualification for Lot 1 to July 3 and for Lot 2 to June 29.

Sikkim’s Energy and Power Department signed agreements with NHPC in in 2006 providing for development of Teesta 4 and the 210-MW Lachen project on a build-own-operate-maintain basis. Teesta 4 is one of six hydropower projects proposed for a cascade on the Teesta River. The project is to feature four 130-MW turbine-generators.

Lot 1 of Teesta Stage 4 includes construction of diversion tunnels, coffer dams, concrete gravity dam, intake, spillway, diversion tunnel gates and hoist, desilting chambers, and headrace tunnel up to RD 1,780 meters, with completion in 67 months.

Pre-qualification documents now may be obtained until July 20 for 40,000 rupees (US$742) by request labeled “Request for Pre-qualification Invitation Document for Lot 1 for Teesta HE Project (Stage IV).” Applications for pre-qualification now are due by 2 p.m. July 23.
