India firm invites rehab bids for 540-MW Bhakra Left

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) seeks bids by August 28 for renovation, modernization, and uprating of five turbine-generator units at the 540-MW Bhakra Left Bank hydro powerhouse in India’s Himachal Pradesh State.

The equipment manufacturer issued the solicitation on behalf of project owner Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), which previously sought bids for the project.

The work includes modernization and uprating of the five Hitachi Francis turbines, AEI generators, and other equipment, increasing capacity to 630 MW. BHEL said bids may be submitted for turbines, generators, or both.

BHEL said in view of urgency and a tight tender schedule, bidders may refer to the previous solicitation notice on the BBMB Internet site,, for technical terms and conditions. However, it said hard copy of the same tender documents can be collected from BHEL at the address below until August 20 as required.

Two-part bids — technical and commercial, and price — are due to the address below by 2:30 p.m. August 28. The envelope should be labeled “NIT No. 306E0701B, Renovation, Modernization, and Uprating of Hydro Generating Units of BBMB.”
