India firm seeks builders for 1,200-MW Teesta 3

Developer Teesta Urja Ltd. invites expressions of interest for turnkey construction of the 1,200-MW Teesta Stage 3 hydroelectric project on the Teesta River in India’s Sikkim State. Responses are due August 20.

The project is to include a 60-meter-tall concrete-faced rockfill dam, 13.33-kilometer headrace tunnel, 980-meter tailrace tunnel, and underground powerhouse containing six 200-MW vertical Pelton turbine-generators operating under a head of 800 meters.

Teesta Urja plans to begin project execution in October after obtaining administrative approvals for a mid-2011 commissioning.
