India firm seeks tunnel for 520-MW Tapovan Vishnugad

India’s NTPC Ltd. seeks bids by September 15 for construction of a headrace tunnel for the 520-MW Tapovan Vishnugad hydroelectric project on the Dhauliganga River in India’s Uttaranchal State.

Work includes: use of a tunnel boring machine to excavate an 8.3-kilometer, concrete-lined tunnel of 5.6 meters in diameter; a 3-kilometer horseshoe-shaped concrete-lined headrace tunnel, 5.6 meters in diameter, using a road header/drill and blast method; and construction of adits, concrete portals, and plugs in adits.

Bid documents may be obtained until August 31 from the address below for 9,000 rupees for Indian bidders and US$200 for foreign bidders in the form of an account payee demand draft to NTPC Ltd., New Delhi. Bids are due by 11 a.m. September 15.
