India firm to build 6-MW Kaliganga 2

The hydro development agency of India’s Uttarakhand State has awarded a US$4.3 million contract for construction of the 6-MW Kaliganga 2 hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag District.

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd., formerly Uttaranchal Jal Vidyut Nigam, (UJVNL) awarded the contract to Srinivasa Constructions Ltd. for design, supply, and installation of complete civil works.

UJVNL originally sought separate domestic bids for civil construction of Kaliganga 2 and international bids for the electro-mechanical equipment of the two-unit project. (HNN 2/8/07)

Kaliganga 2 was one of four projects tendered by UJVNL under the Uttaranchal Power Sector Investment Project, backed by US$300 million in funding from the Asian Development Bank. The program is to foster clean energy development mainly involving small hydro, plus transmission system expansion and sector capacity building.

Other projects in the original solicitation included 4-MW Kaliganga 1, 10-MW Madhyamaheshwar, and 9-MW Kaldigad, all in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag District.
