India’s NHPC renews civil works pre-qualification for 195-MW Kotlibhel 1A

India’s NHPC Ltd. has renewed an invitation for pre-qualification to construct civil works of the 195-MW Kotlibhel 1A hydroelectric project in India’s Uttarakhand State. Responses are due October 9.

The government-owned utility previously invited applications for pre-qualification for the work in 2012. In 2006, NHPC similarly invited pre-qualification of civil works contractors for Kotlibhel 1A, 320-MW Kotlibhel 1B, and 530-MW Kotlibhel 2. It invited firms in 2007 to pre-qualify to supply electro-mechanical equipment for the projects. NHPC took bids in 2008 from consultants to assist in carbon credits marketing for the Kotlibhels and two other hydro projects.

The developer now invites pre-qualification for all civil works including a diversion tunnel, coffer dams, concrete gravity dam, intake structure, headrace tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft, underground powerhouse to contain three 65-MW units, TRT system, pothead yard, diversion tunnel gates, and hoists. The work is expected to require 44 months.

Pre-qualification documents may be obtained from the NHPC Internet site at for an online payment of 20,000 rupees (US$323).
