India seeks EPC contractor for 444-MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti

Tehri Hydro Development Corp. Ltd. (THDC) invites applications for pre-qualification for an engineering-procurement-construction contract for the 444-MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti hydroelectric project on the Alaknanda River. Responses are due June 29.

The contract is to include:
o Civil works: 65-meter-tall concrete gravity dam, 13.4-kilometer headrace tunnel, desilting chambers, underground powerhouse, transformer cavern, and 3-kilometer tailrace tunnel;
o Hydro-mechanical works: radial and vertical gates, hoisting arrangements for spillways and intakes, penstock steel liner, etc.; and
o Electro-mechanical works: four vertical Francis turbine-generators of 111 MW each; 13 single-phase, 46-MVa, 13.8/400-kV transformers; and 420-kV GIS, XLPE cables, and control system.

THDC previously called for consultants in separate solicitations for environmental studies and for sediment handling studies for the project in India’s Uttarakhand State. (HNN 4/4/07)

Pre-qualification documents are available on the THDC Internet site,, for the information of applicants. Documents, in English, may be obtained until June 28 from the address below for 10,000 rupees or US$222 by demand draft to Tehri Hydro Development Corp. Ltd. at New Delhi.

Applications for pre-qualification are due by 2 p.m. June 29. THDC expects to issue invitations to bid in October.
