India-Turkey venture wins contract to build Algeria’s Mehouane Dam

Algeria’s dam and water agency has awarded a US$153 million contract to an India-Turkey joint venture to build Mehouane Dam in Setif Province.

Agence Nationale des Barrage et Transferts (ANBT) awarded the detailed design and construction contract to Patel Engineering Ltd. of India and ASKA Insaat Construction Co. of Turkey.

ANBT said the Patel-ASKA Insaat bid was among 12 bids received for the water project from companies based in eight countries.

Patel said the contract was its first in Algeria. The company said it is expanding its efforts in Africa and is finalizing bids in other countries on the continent.
