India’s NTPC seeks bids to build 171-MW Lata Tapovan

India’s NTPC Hydro Ltd. seeks bids for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the 171-Lata Tapovan hydroelectric project on the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand State. Bids are due October 23.

NTPC Hydro, the hydro development unit of India’s biggest power producer NTPC Ltd., said the EPC contract is to include:
o Civil works: dam; intake; desilting basin; headrace tunnel; surge shaft; pressure shaft; valve, powerhouse, and transformer caverns; tailrace gallery and tunnel; switchyard; and access roads;
o Electro-mechanical works: three 57-MW turbines, generators, transformers, and balance of plant; and
o Hydro-mechanical works: gates of dam, intake, desilting basin, silt flushing tunnel, headrace tunnel inlet, surge shaft, draft tube, and tailrace tunnel outfall.

Bid documents may be obtained until 3 p.m. September 27 from the address below for 22,500 rupees for Indian bidders or US$500 for foreign bidders, payable by crossed account payee demand draft to NTPC Ltd., New Delhi. The documents also may be obtained from NTPC’s tendering Internet site,, with online payment of the document fee.
