Italian water utility Siciliacque SpA seeks bids to modify a water supply aqueduct to enable construction of the 973.77-kW Alcantara 1 hydroelectric project in Sicily. Bids are due June 18.

In a program to develop hydropower on its water supply conduits, Siciliacque plans to build the Alcantara 1 project along the Alcantara River in the communities of Taormina and Castelmola. Italian electric utility Enel operates a separate 2.57-MW Alcantara 1 Salto hydro project farther upstream on the Alcantara at Castiglione di Sicilia.

Siciliacque seeks bids for detailed design and implementation to retrofit the existing water supply conduit to supply the proposed hydro plant. The work is valued at 3.87 million euros (US$5.26 million) and is expected to require 600 days.

Tender documents may be obtained from the address below. Bids, in Italian, are due by 1 p.m. June 18.
