Kenya utility seeks new unit for 44-MW Kindaruma

Kenya Electricity Generating Co. Ltd. (KenGen) seeks bids for a third turbine-generator and rehabilitation of the 44-MW Kindaruma hydroelectric project on Kenya’s Tana River. Bids are due March 18.

Kindaruma is one of the Seven Forks hydro projects on the Tana, which also include 144-MW Kiambere (HNN 9/12/08), 40-MW Masinga (HNN 1/13/09), 94.2-MW Kamburu, and 225-MW Gitaru. (HNN 2/21/07)

With funding from Germany’s KfW Entwicklungsbank, KenGen seeks bids for design, manufacture, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of a third generating unit and the rehabilitation of the Kindaruma power station, 170 kilometers from Nairobi.
