Knight Construction wins spillway gate rehab contract for Blue River Dam

Knight Construction & Supply Co. has won a $3.7 million contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to rehabilitate spillway gates at the Blue River Dam in Oregon.

The Corps’ Portland District solicited bids for the work in July, which will see Knight Construction perform the rehabilitation to restore their integrity and reliability in accordance with current codes, design criteria and standards. The work includes design and construction for gate structural, electrical, controls, mechanical, protective coating system and related appurtenances.

The Corps took bids in 2011 for sampling and abatement of asbestos and lead at 21 Corps projects include Blue River, a flood control and water storage structure that has been studied for private development of hydropower.

The dam is located on the Blue River, which is a tributary to the McKenzie River. reported in September that Knight Construction had been awarded a $1 million contract by the Corps to construct a floating barrier across the Snake River above the 810-MW Lower Monumental hydroelectric plant.
