Laos seeks sub-basin modeling for hydropower development planning

The government of Laos invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform sub-basin modeling for reservoir management and hydropower development planning. Responses are due February 28.

With funding from the World Bank’s International Development Association and the Australian government, the Ministry of Energy and Mines is implementing a Hydropower and Mining Sectors Project.

Under that program, the government recruited consultants in October to assist in generation expansion planning and policy making capacity in Laos’ hydropower sector. Additionally, the World Bank’s International Finance Corp. recruited consultants in December to facilitate a Hydropower Developers Working Group in Laos.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines now seeks consultants to perform sub-basin modeling to help ensure that decisions on hydropower development projects are in line with sustainable water resources development and are economically sound. Over 18 months, consultants are to produce a project design document, a report on three basin-wide modeling case studies, a report on results and conclusions, and training manuals.
