Lesotho seeks social, environmental monitoring of Metolong Dam project

The government of Lesotho invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform social and environmental monitoring of the Metolong Dam project on the Phuthitsana River near Metolong, Lesotho. Responses are due April 30.

Metolong Dam is a Lesotho Lowlands Water Supply project that is to supply domestic and industrial water to six lowland districts of Lesotho. The government awarded a US$79.9 million contract in 2011 to Sinohydro of China to build Metolong Dam and a raw water pumping station.

The Metolong Authority seeks an individual consultant or member of a consulting firm to perform an environmental and social audit over four months to assess and review the performance of the authority in implementation of its environmental and social obligations in developing and operating the dam.

Expressions of interest including resume must be hand delivered or mailed by 11 a.m. April 30 to Chief Executive Officer Keith Reynolds, Metolong Authority, 29 Mabile Road, Red Cross Building, Private Bag 9137, Maseru 100 Lesotho; Fax: (266) 22-315804; E-mail: keith.reynolds@metolong.org.ls and info@metolong.org.ld.

The authority said it also encourages electronic submissions to that address using a single pdf document or other protected file. All submissions should be labeled “Application for an Individual Consultant to Conduct an Environmental and Social Audit for the Metolong Dam and Water Supply Program.”
