Lignum Vitae wins award for bearings at Stevens Creek hydropower plant

Lignum Vitae North America has been awarded a contract to provide water-lubricated main guide bearings for Unit 2 at the 19-MW Stevens Creek hydropower project.

The Stevens Creek plant — located on the Savannah River — is operated by South Carolina Gas & Electric (SCG&E) and houses five generator units that date to the powerhouse’s completion in the early 20th Century.

“This is an excellent example of South Carolina Gas & Electric’s commitment to environmentally responsible projects,” a company release said.

Lignum Vitae, which was recently awarded a similar contract for work at Alabama Power’s 180-MW Lay Dam, said its water-lubricated bearings will provide Stevens Creek with “maximum uptime and lower maintenance costs.”

Lignum Vitae will be exhibiting at HydroVision International 2013 in Booth No. 1028. HydroVision International 2013 runs July 23-26 at Denver’s Colorado Convention Center.
