Longkaikou hydropower station finalist in Be Inspired awards program

The 1,800-MW Longkaikou hydropower station, on the Jinsha River in China, is a finalist in the Be Inspired awards program in the category Innovation in Power Generation.

According to a press release from Bentley Systems Inc., these annual awards “honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users advancing infrastructure design, construction, and operations throughout the world.” Bentley provides comprehensive software solutions for advancing infrastructure.

A total of 54 finalists were selected by 10 independent jury panels from more than 300 nominations. The finalists will present their innovative projects at the Year in Infrastructure 2016 conference in London Nov. 1-3. The winners will be announced during an evening gala Nov. 2.

Construction on the Longkaikou hydropower station in Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province, began in 2007 but construction was halted briefly in 2009. The powerhouse contains five 360-MW Francis turbine-generator units and the final unit was commissioned in 2013.

The company named as finalist in association with this project is East China Design & Research Institute Co. Ltd. of China Power Construction Group Corporation.

In 2015, the Keeyask Hydroelectric Generation Station in Manitoba, Canada, was named a finalist in two categories, Innovation in Megaprojects and Innovation in Power Generation.
