Madeira seeks bids for dam to expand Calheta hydro system

The electric utility of the Portuguese island of Madeira seeks bids to build a dam and expand irrigation canals to expand the Calheta hydroelectric system on the island. Bids are due November 15.

Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira SA (EEM) seeks bids to build a 31-meter-tall embankment dam to store 1 million cubic meters of water and to expand the Paul and Paul 2 irrigation canals. The work is part of the planned expansion of EEM’s Calheta hydroelectric system, which includes the 4.57-MW Calheta hydro plant and the 7.3-MW Calheta de Inverno plant.
