Massachusetts seeks data to fund hydroelectric energy incentives

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center seeks information from hydroelectric project operators in the state to help it fund energy incentives for increased hydroelectric generation. Responses are due March 1.

MassCEC grants funding to proposed hydropower projects under the Commonwealth Hydropower Initiative of MassCEC’s Renewable Energy Trust Fund. It recruited consultants in February to help evaluate funding applications for hydropower project development or upgrade.

In the current request for information, MassCEC seeks information from owners, developers, or other parties associated with hydropower facilities in the state or with qualifying facilities as Massachusetts Class I or Class II renewable energy generating sources.

The agency seeks information on how best to structure a Hydropower Design and Improvement Program that it will administer. The program is to fund upgrades and improvements to existing hydroelectric facilities that have incrementally increased generating capacity since Dec. 31, 1997.

MassCEC plans to use information gathered to design a competitive grant program to facilitate hydropower improvements.

The request for information, survey, and other details may be obtained from the agency Internet site under http://www.masscec.com/index.cfm/page/RFI-Regarding-Hydropower-Design-and-Construction-Improvement-Program/cdid/14429/pid/11161.
