Mavel supplies turbine, announces commissioning of Finland hydro project

Mavel, a.s. announced the successful commissioning of the Finnholm hydroelectric power plant, for which Mavel supplied a turbine.

Mavel was awarded a contract by Vaasa Engineering Oy of Finland to supply one double regulated Kaplan bulb turbine to the Finnholm site, located on the Ahtavanjoki River in the Western part of middle Finland and owned by Oy Herrfors Ab.

Mavel provided the steel intake and draft tube, hydraulic unit, lubricating and cooling system and the turbine.

Work on the project began in October 2008, and commissioning was in November 2009. The installed capacity is 862 KW.

Mavel is a Czech Republic-based manufacturing and engineering company focusing on production of turbines for hydroelectric power plants from 25 KW to more than 25MW. Over the past 14 years, Mavel and its subsidiary CKD TurboTechnics, s.r.o. have installed or signed orders for over 300 turbines at more than 225 sites around the world, Mavel reported.

Vaasa Engineering is a Finnish company founded in 1989 and now employing over 395 persons with daughter companies in Norway, Sweden and Russia. The company develops and manufactures automation systems, low and medium voltage switchgears and electrification.
