Moltz Construction wins gate refurbishment contract for Parker hydropower project

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a US$2.2 million contract to Moltz Constructors Inc. to pain penstock gates and refurbish fixed-wheel gate assemblies at the 120-MW Parker hydroelectric plant on the Colorado River.

Reclamation most recently solicited bids for the work in July.

Per the contract, Moltz will paint three fixed-wheel penstock gates and refurbish 24 fixed-wheel assemblies per gate.

The agency requested information in December on firms capable of performing the work. The agency previously said it planned to seek bids to supply acoustic velocity meters for Parker, on the California-Arizona border. Parker Dam also has been a testing site for silicon foul release coatings due to quagga and zebra mussel infestations.
