Morocco utility Office National de l’Electricite (ONE) seeks bids for construction of a new upper reservoir for the 463-MW Afourer pumped-storage project at Bin El Ouidan Dam in Beni Mellal Province. Bids are due May 16.

ONE said the solicitation is subject to be financed by an international financial institution. Previous work on the project was financed by the European Investment Bank and the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

The utility seeks a new reservoir to optimize the operation of the Afourer project, which began operation in March 2005. The 1.7 billion dirham (US$148.8 million) project was built by a consortium led by Alstom Power.

Work is to include construction of a new upper reservoir of 1.3 million cubic meters and a conduit connecting to an existing upper reservoir. Bidders must have had experience building two similar projects, worth 4 million euros (US$5.23 million) each, in the past five years.
