Mozambique seeks consultants to plan dam design and construction

Mozambique’s national water directorate invites expressions of interest from consultants to plan dam design and construction for multiple uses, possibly including power generation. Responses to two solicitations are due August 6 and 9.

Direccao Nacional de Aguas (DNA) recruited consultants in April to help monitor international river control agreements and to serve as hydro-mechanical specialist on a water resources development expert panel. It also recruited consultants in February to draft a strategic basin plan for a development project in the Lurio River Basin, site of at least two proposed hydroelectric projects. The Southern Africa Development Community took bids last year to supply hydrometric equipment for shared river basin management in Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.

With funding requested from the World Bank’s International Development Agency, Direccao Nacional de Aguas now invites expressions of interest from consultants by August 6 for preparation of a strategic plan for small dams and excavated reservoirs. Strategic plans for sustainable development of small water infrastructure emphasize public water supply, livestock water, irrigation, and power generation.

Work is to include a national diagnosis of small dams and reservoirs, plan for capacity building and private sector, plan for investment and financing, implementation plan, brochures, and a model for sustainable management of small dams and reservoirs. Expressions of interest are due August 6 to the address below.

DNA also invites expressions of interest from consultants by August 9 for preliminary and final design of Metuchira Dam in Sofala Province and Ressano Garcia Weir in Maputo Province. Designs are to advance construction of both projects. Expressions of interest are due August 9 to the address below.
