Mozambique’s national water directorate invites expressions of interest from consultants to help monitor international river control agreements and to serve as hydro-mechanical specialist on a water resources development expert panel. Responses to separate solicitations are due April 20.
Direccao Nacional de Aguas (DNA) recruited consultants in February to draft a strategic basin plan for a development project in the Lurio River Basin, site of at least two proposed hydroelectric projects.
With funding requested from the World Bank’s International Development Agency, Direccao Nacional de Aguas now invites expressions of interest from consultants to help develop a National Strategy and Action Plan for Monitoring of Compliance of Shared Watercourses Agreements to which Mozambique is a signatory. Consultants are to review existing agreements, propose options for a network of water quality measurement and hydro-meteorological stations on the borders of the country, propose parameters of a monitoring scheme, and identify the most effective dispute settlement mechanisms.
DNA also invites expressions of interest from consultants to serve as hydro-mechanical specialist on an expert panel. Work is to include: review of project documentation and design standards including spillway design criteria, capacity, and arrangements; review of basic design for fuse plug and saddle dam for emergency operation; review height of freeboard based on required wind fetch and other factors that would determine the maximum surcharge level of reservoir; and review structural and electro-mechanical design of spillway gates and other inlet-outlet structures, lifting mechanism, control system, and operation.
Expressions of interest in both solicitations are due by 2 p.m. April 20.
