Nicaragua seeks bids to build four micro-hydro projects

Nicaragua’s energy and mines ministry seeks bids to build and equip four micro-hydropower projects in the municipalities of Nueva Guinea and El Rama in Nicaragua’s Region Autonoma del Atlantico Sur. Bids are due September 30.

With funding from Norway and Switzerland via the United Nations Development Program, Nicaragua plans to develop small-scale hydropower in areas outside the national power grid. The Ministerio de Energia y Minas previously called for bids by September 12 for construction of the 1.548-MW Wiwili hydroelectric project in Jinotega Department.

In the current solicitation, the ministry has scheduled an optional site visit September 8 and an optional meeting to discuss the bid document September 12, a deadline to submit questions September 19, and a deadline to request bid documents by noon September 29.

The ministry seeks bids for construction of civil works and supply and installation of electro-mechanical equipment of the four projects:
o 15-kW Las Iguanas in El Rama;
o 18-kW San Geronimo in El Rama;
o 17-kW Daniel Guido in Nueva Guinea; and
o 8-kW San Jose de Punta Gorda in Nueva Guinea.

Solicitation documents in hard copy may be obtained until noon September 29 from the address below for 100 cordobas (US$4.50). The documents also may be obtained free of charge from Nicaragua’s tendering Internet site,, under the link Contrataciones Vigentes. In such case, the bidder should notify the address below.
