Niger Basin seeks studies, mapping of water resource area

The Niger Basin authority invites expressions of interest in developing socio-economic and cartographic surveys for a Niger Basin water resources program that includes rehabilitation of the 760-MW Kainji and 540-MW Jebba hydroelectric projects. Responses are due September 15.

The World Bank’s International Development Association approved a loan to Autorite du Bassin du Niger (ABN), including Benin, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria, for a program of water resources development and durable management of ecosystems in the Niger River Basin. (HNN 2/1/08)

ABN seeks consultants to draft a socio-economic plan including an inventory of vital resources of rural communities in the affected area of the basin. Consultants also are to develop a cartographic plan and a database with spatial references of the area. Results of the work are to provide a decision-making tool for activity planning in the basin.
