Niger seeks environmental, social consultants for 125-MW Kandadji

The government of Niger invites expressions of interest from consultants to update the environmental and social management plan in the area of the proposed 125-MW Kandadji Dam on the Niger River. Responses are due December 28, 2009.

The African Development Bank Group has agreed to help finance the Kandadji Ecosystems Regeneration and Niger Valley Development Program, which includes construction of Kandadji Dam. Financing for the hydropower station is due to come from a public-private partnership. The government recruited consultants in November for three contracts involving social and economic relocation of residents. (HydroWorld 11/20/09)

Additionally, the World Bank’s International Development Association is funding water resources development and sustainable ecosystems management including the current solicitation.

The agriculture development ministry now invites expressions of interest by noon December 28 from consultants to update the environmental and social management plan of the Kandadji program.
