Nigeria seeks study, design of small hydro

Power Holding Co. of Nigeria (PHCN) invites expressions of interest in providing a feasibility study and design of grid-connected small hydropower plants for rural electrification. Responses are due October 6.

The Nigerian government received a US$172 million credit from the World Bank’s International Development Association to finance the program, which includes transmission, distribution, and rural access and renewable energy components. (HNN 8/15/06)

In the current solicitation, PHCN seeks a feasibility study for a grid-connected small hydropower project at the waterfall at the Agbokim and Effighim communities in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State. The study is to determine the parameters and configurations for proper design of the most suitable plant.

The chosen consultant also is to help prepare technical specifications and drawings of equipment required for the plant and is to provide a bill of quantities and cost estimate.
