Nile Basin Initiative seeks water resources management support

The 10-nation Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) seeks expressions of interest from consultants to develop processes and software for a Basin Decision Support System (DSS) for its water resources planning and management program. Responses are due February 18.

The Nile Basin DSS includes: a Nile Basin Knowledge Base with a communication and information management system; a Regional River Basin Planning Model to evaluate development paths and identify joint investment projects; a suite of analytic tools; and development of core national capabilities. NBI recruited a consultant in 2006 to conduct a needs assessment for the DSS that is to be completed by April. (HNN 7/24/06)

In separate activity, NBI, which includes Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, also is developing a regional power trade project. (HNN 11/30/07)

The current solicitation is the development and implementation of business processes and a full software system required for the DSS. The assignment is to require no more than 2.5 years.
