Nile Basin seeks testing of new water resources management system

The 10-nation Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) seeks expressions of interest from consultants to compile data and test a new Basin Decision Support System (DSS) for its water resources planning and management program. Responses are due June 30.

Earlier this year, NBI recruited consultants to actually develop processes and software for the DSS. (HNN 1/11/08) The DSS includes: a Nile Basin Knowledge Base with a communication and information management system; a Regional River Basin Planning Model to evaluate development paths and identify joint investment projects; a suite of analytic tools; and development of core national capabilities.

The current solicitation includes compilation of data sets for use of the DSS as well as testing the operation and usability of the system. It also includes quality assurance of the DSS. Consultants are to have experience in large scale water resources model and decision support applications.
