Nile group seeks basin project studies in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania

The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) invites expressions of interest from consultants to prepare feasibility studies and investment proposals for the Sio-Malaba-Malakisi River Basin of Kenya and Uganda and the Mara River Basin of Kenya and Tanzania. Responses to separate solicitations are due December 16, 2009.

With funding from the World Bank’s Nile Basin Trust Fund, NBI plans to implement the Sio-Malaba-Malakisi Transboundary Integrated Water Resources Management and Development Project, the Mara Transboundary Integrated Water Resources and Development Project, and the Kagera Transboundary Integrated Water Resources Management Project.

NBI, under the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP), previously called for consultants to perform feasibility studies of multi-purpose reservoirs, including hydropower, in the Kagera Basin of Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. (HydroWorld 11/30/09) NBI recruited consultants in March for pre-feasibility studies of multi-purpose reservoirs, including hydropower, in the Sio-Malaba-Malakisi basin.

The current solicitations seek feasibility studies and preparation of investment programs for Sio-Malaba-Malakisi and for Mara. The two watershed management programs include wetlands management, drainage and waste management, wildlife management, fisheries, and soil and water conservation.

Expressions of interest and qualifications, four copies in English, are due for each solicitation by 10 a.m. December 16. For information, contact the addresses below.
