Norway utility to seek turbine-generator for 8-MW Fossan

Regional utility Halogaland Kraft AS invites applications for pre-qualification to supply a turbine and generator for the proposed 8-MW Fossan hydroelectric project in Norway’s Troms County. Responses are due November 28.

Halogaland Kraft has applied to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate for a concession to develop Fossan in Gratangen municipality. Final ordering of equipment is expected after a favorable concession decision is received, expected in June 2009.

On behalf of the utility, consultant Norconsult AS is taking pre-qualification applications to supply one Pelton turbine designed for a maximum flow of 5 cubic meters per second and a head of 165 meters. The solicitation also includes one generator with rated output of 8.6 megavolt-amperes.

The contract is to be carried out between June 2009 and May 2011.

Solicitation documents may be obtained from the address below. Norconsult plans to compile a short list of five of six bidders that would be invited to submit proposals by December 19.

Applications for pre-qualification in English, Swedish, or Norwegian are due by noon November 28. For information, contact Knut Gjermundrod, Norconsult AS, Vestfjordgaten 4, N-1338 Sandvika, Norway; (47) 67-571000; E-mail:; Internet:,
