Ocean Energy Limited awarded spot at UK’s Wave Hub

CORNWALL, United Kingdom 2/16/12 (PennWell) — Tidal power equipment manufacturer Ocean Energy Limited has been selected to install a generating unit at Ireland’s Wave Hub test facility.

Ocean Energy, along with its partner, Dresser-Rand, has been testing a quarter-scale prototype of its OE Buoy in Galway Bay for the past three years, paving the way for the US$11.75 million full-scale unit the company expects to deploy at Wave Hub by the end of the year.

Wave Hub, located off the north coast of Cornwall, is a testing bed for wave energy machines that was created in 2010.

The Wave Hub fund matches some installation costs, including the costs of securing a Marine License and installation of moorings and deployment.

With Ocean Energy’s invitation to participate at the site, two of Wave Hub’s four berths have been claimed. USA-based Ocean Power Technologies has secured the other.
