Ohio utilities seek renewable energy credits including hydro

FirstEnergy Corp. has issued a request for proposals seeking to purchase renewable energy credits from sources including hydropower, on behalf of its Ohio utilities, Ohio Edison, Cleveland Electric Illuminating, and Toledo Edison.

FirstEnergy scheduled a webinar on the RFP process for Oct. 4 and called for credit applications by Oct. 22 and proposals by Oct. 29.

The utilities seek both renewable energy credits from renewables projects including hydropower and a separate category of solar renewable energy credits. A credit represents the environmental attributes of 1 MWh of generation from renewables facilities under guidelines of the Ohio renewable energy portfolio standard.

FirstEnergy seeks 140,000 renewable energy credits generated in Ohio, 175,000 RECs generated in Ohio or in states contiguous to Ohio, and 7,500 solar renewable energy credits generated in Ohio or contiguous states.

Solicitation information may be obtained from the FirstEnergy Internet site under www.firstenergycorp.com/OH2012RECRFP. The utilities scheduled an Internet seminar Oct. 4 and will take questions until 5 p.m. Oct. 11 via e-mail to rfp@navigant.com.

Prospective bidders are encouraged to submit credit applications by Oct. 22. Bids are due by 3 p.m., Eastern time, Oct. 29. For information, contact Director Dan Bradley, Navigant Consulting; (1) 516-876-4036; E-mail: rfp@navigant.com; Internet: www.firstenergycorp.com/OH2012RECRFP.
