Pakistan extends civil works solicitation for 2,160-MW Dasu Stage 1 hydro project

Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has extended the deadline for applications for pre-qualification to perform major civil works construction of the 2,160-MW Dasu Stage 1 hydroelectric project on Pakistan’s Indus River. Responses now are due December 1.

WAPDA previously called for responses by October 31. WAPDA took expressions of interest in August for project management and for an ecological-biodiversity plan for Dasu 1. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif broke ground in June for the total 4,320-MW Dasu Stage 1 and 2 project. The run-of-river project is 240 kilometers upstream from the 3,480-MW Tarbela hydroelectric project near Dasu in Kohistan District.

Dasu Stage 1 includes construction of a 242-meter-tall roller-compacted-concrete dam, underground powerhouse and switchgear cavern, and six turbine-generators. About 34 villages with 7,000 people are to be relocated and 4,104 hectares to be inundated.

WAPDA now invites applications for pre-qualification to carry out two lots of civil works:

  • ICB-DASU-MW-01, procurement of main works, main hydraulic structure, spillway, low-level outlets, river diversions and hydraulic steel structures; and
  • ICB-DASU-MW-02, procurement of main works, underground power complex, tunnels and hydraulic steel structures.

Pre-qualification documents, in English, may be purchased from the address below upon written application and a fee of 20,000 rupees or US$200 with mailing of documents within Pakistan. For mailing of documents outside Pakistan, the total fee is 30,000 rupees or US$300. Payment is by bank pay order or demand draft to General Manager, Dasu HPP, WAPDA, Sunny View Estate, Kashmir Road, Lahore, Pakistan.

WAPDA also rescheduled two pre-qualification conferences, one now scheduled October 20 at the Marriott Hotel in Singapore and the other for November 5 at Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel, in London.

Applications for pre-qualification now are due by 11 a.m. December 1, labeled “Application to Pre-qualify for Dasu Hydropower Project DASU-MW-01 and DASU-MW-02.” For information, contact Office of General Manager, Dasu Hydropower Project, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Sunny View Estate, Kashmir Road, Lahore, Pakistan; (92) 42-99202676; Fax: (92) 42-99202667; E-mail: dasuhpp@yahoo.com; Internet: www.wapda.gov.pk, www.ppra.org.pk.
