Pakistan seeks construction of 26-MW Shargarthang, 4-MW Thak Chilas

Pakistan’s Gilgit Baltistan Region seeks bids for turnkey construction of two hydroelectric projects in northern Pakistan, 26-MW Shargarthang and 4-MW Thak Chilas. Bids in separate solicitations are due January 24 and January 29, 2013.

26-MW Shargarthang

In one solicitation, the Water and Power Department of Gilgit Baltistan seeks bids by January 24 for engineering, procurement, and construction of Shargarthang (also called Shagharthang) on Pakistan’s Kachurah River, a tributary of the Indus River.

The high-head run-of-river project includes a diversion weir, desilting basin, connecting channel, daily storage pond, open tunnel, surge tank, penstock pipe, a powerhouse containing three vertical Pelton turbine-generators, and a 32-kilometer transmission line. The work is to require 1,370 days.

Tender documents in English may be obtained from the address below for 25,000 rupees (US$259) by bank draft or pay order. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. December 24 at the address below.

4-MW Thak Chilas

In the second solicitation, the Water and Power Department of Gilgit Baltistan seeks bids by January 29 for engineering, procurement, and construction of Thak Chilas (also called Thack Chilas) on Pakistan’s Thack Nallah.

The project includes a diversion weir, desilting basin, connecting channel, surge tank, penstock pipe, a powerhouse containing three horizontal Pelton turbine-generators, and an 18-kilometer transmission line. The work is to require 1,320 days.

Tender documents in English may be obtained from the address below for 25,000 rupees (US$259) by bank draft or pay order. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. January 9 at the Asian Development Bank’s Serena Complex in Islamabad, Pakistan.
