Pakistan seeks power swing control for 3,480-MW Tarbela Dam, electrical equipment for 1,410-MW Tarbela 4

Tarbela Hydropower Project

Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) seeks bids to supply compressors for controlling a power swing phenomenon of turbines at the 3,480-MW Tarbela Dam hydroelectric project on the Indus River. Bids are due June 18.

WAPDA also seeks bids by June 24 to supply transformers, circuit breakers and disconnect switches for the 1,410-MW Tarbela 4th Extension hydropower project.

The authority issued a similar solicitation for power swing control equipment last year.

WAPDA now seeks bids to supply screw-type compressors along with an air receiver tank for controlling a power swing phenomenon, a variation in power flow, of hydropower turbines in the Tarbela hydro plant.

Tender documents may be obtained until June 17 from the address below for 1,000 rupees (US$10) submitted by pay order or bank draft to Chief Engineer (Power), WAPDA Tarbela Dam, payable at M/s Habib Bank Ltd., G.I.K.I. Branch, Topi-1979, Account No. 19790006519303.

Circuit breakers, transformers sought for 1,410-MW Tarbela 4

WAPDA seeks bids by June 24 to supply transformers, circuit breakers and disconnect switches for the 1,410-MW Tarbela 4th Extension hydropower project.

The Pakistani government committed in February to spend US$51 million in an effort to expedite completion of Tarbela 4 by seven months. The agency also has been recruiting firms for project preparation and design of the 1,300-MW Tarbela Dam 5th Extension hydro project.

WAPDA took bids in March for replacement circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and current transformers at the main Tarbela project.

Under the Tarbela 4th Extension project, WAPDA now seeks design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of equipment at the Tarbela 500/220-kilovolt switchyard, including three 150-MVa, 500/220-kV auto-transformers; 500-kV circuit breakers rating 4000A, 63-KA short-circuit; 500-kV current transformers; 500-kV disconnect switches; 500-kV busbars; and 500-kV surge arresters.

Tender documents may be obtained from the address below for US$200 or the equivalent in rupees (20,370 rupees).

Bids are due by 11 a.m. June 24.
