Panama seeks rural electrification monitoring, including hydro

Panama’s Office of Rural Electrification invites expressions of interest from consultants to monitor implementation of its rural electrification program, which includes micro- and small hydropower. Responses are due May 30.

Oficina de Electrificacion Rural (OER) took bids in 2008 for development of isolated community electrification systems powered by small hydroelectric projects. Earlier this year, it was reported Panama is developing 16 hydroelectric projects with a total investment of more than US$1 billion to be completed by 2015.

OER seeks firms to monitor performance of rural electrification projects including extension of networks, internal facilities, and projects on isolated systems powered by micro- or small hydro or other renewable energy sources. The budget for the work is US$200,000.

Expressions of interest and qualifications are due by 3 p.m. May 30 by mail or e-mail to the address below. OER plans to compile a short-list of firms to be invited to bid.
