Papua New Guinea seeks consultant to form renewables association

PNG Sustainable Energy Ltd. (PNG SEL) seeks consultants to support the creation of a renewable energy industry association, including hydropower, for Papua New Guinea. Responses are due January 30.

With support of the World Bank, PNG SEL seeks a consultant to assist in creation of a renewable energy industry association, including promotion of articles of incorporation, mission statements, potential activities, market survey, and funding sources. The consultant also is to provide training on renewable energy policies, financing, and practices in other countries to key stakeholders in Papua New Guinea.

Although the majority of the country does not have access to electricity, there is a large potential for renewable energy. Papua New Guinea is well endowed with renewable energy sources, including hydropower, wind, solar, and biomass energy.

A small renewables business community has developed, primarily in small hydro and solar photovoltaics. The country already has several hydro projects ranging from 1.5 MW to 45 MW. (HNN 12/20/06)
